CELEBRATE YOUR GERMAN HERITAGE! 8 1/8" tall stoneware stein made by Gerz. It is stamped West Germany on the bottom. This stein is from 1983. On October 6, 1683, the first German settlers to come to America as a group arrived in Philadelphia from Krefeld, Germany. The historic event has been handsomely recorded in a model for Pastorius monument by the American sculptor of Swiss-German origin, J. Otto Schweizer (1890-1965) centerpiece of this commemorative stein. Scroll decorations embellishing this piece were taken from German baptismal certificate issued in Pennsylvania in 1873. A relief band around the base symbolizes the sailing ship, Concord, which brought the first 14 German families to the new land. A decorative handle is representative of a sea wave, and flat pewter lid shows the relief figure of a dolphin, swimming toward the handle. Inside the lid, the official seal that commemorates this tricentennial event. This pastel-colored stein is finished in a fine antique matt patina. This stein also comes with its original Certificate of Authenticity.
